about big oak pre-school

The Big Oak Pre-School is situated in beautiful and secure surroundings within the Chagford Primary School site in Dartmoor National Park. We have a dedicated room with excellent facilities with plenty of opportunities for creative play and a wonderful, well equipped outside play area for the children to explore with their new friends.

We offer the Early Years Foundation Stage leading to nationally approved early learning goals with individual care and attention only made possible by having a high ratio of adults to children. The children are supported in developing as individuals both socially and emotionally.

We encourage parents to be involved in their child’s education from the start, by helping out at pre-school sessions or on our parent management committee.

There are excellent links between The Big Oak Pre-School and Chagford Primary School. The reception teacher regularly visits the children in the pre-school during the term before they start school so that they can get to know each other and the children also spend some time in the reception class. This aids a smooth and happy transition from pre-school to big school.
